Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I do if I have a warrant?

In some cases, you can have a warrant and not even know it. Perhaps it’s from an old traffic violation you forgot about, or you were hunting or fishing without a license and received a citation. You may have resolved your case, but never finished paying a fine or court costs. You may have not even known you owed a fine or court costs. In any event:

    1. Call or text John at (859) 940-7480; even if you think you may not be able to afford one. You want to understand why you have a warrant.
    2. Until the warrant is resolved (or at least recalled), you do not want to travel by air.
    3. Until the warrant is resolved (or at least recalled), you do not want to drive a car that is registered in your name.
    4. Until the warrant is resolved (or at least recalled), you do not want to attempt to enter a military base.
    5. Talk with a loved one about care for children and setting bond money aside, in the event you are arrested on the warrant.

An attorney can help navigate the delicate situation with the least amount of interruption to your life.

  • What should I do if I have an FTA or Failure to Appear?

An FTA or Failure to Appear means that you are due in Court but won’t be arrested if you’re pulled over during a traffic stop. Usually, it means the case is unresolved in some fashion. But an FTA can turn into a warrant if left unattended for long enough. Either way, call or text John at (859) 940-7480.

  • What if I can’t afford an attorney?

Call us anyway - we may not be as expensive as you think. We offer payment plans, too!

  • My loved one was arrested and your office isn’t open, what should I do?

You can check the status of defendants who have just been booked into a jail by going to the jail’s website. Sometimes the amount of their bond will be listed. If it isn’t, that means one may not have been set yet. If they have a bond, you can pay it at the local district court and sometimes at the jail. Call the Circuit Clerk in whichever county your loved one was arrested to get more information on posting the bond. The phone numbers to Circuit Clerk’s offices can be found here.

Remember - you are not trying to reach the COUNTY clerk, but the CIRCUIT clerk in whichever county the incident took place. Kentucky’s names for these positions are particularly confusing. But during business hours, call or text John at (859) 940-7480. Frequently, an arraignment (the first court appearance) will be held the next morning, while the Defendant is still in jail.

  • I paid the bond. Now I don’t have money to hire an attorney.

We may still be able to help by using a tool called a Bond Assignment - where you “assign” or direct part of a Defendant’s bond money to the defendant’s attorney. This isn’t always available, but we’re happy to take a look.

  • I have Court, but I can’t be there.

If you can’t come to Court, you need to call or text John at (859) 940-7480. If we have enough time, sometimes we can help. Court dates aren’t easily “rescheduled,” and if you don’t appear for felony cases, a warrant could be issued for your arrest.

  • Help! I missed Court!

Call or text John at (859) 940-7480 as soon as you realize. A warrant may already been issued for your arrest.

  • Why is my license suspended?

Your license may be suspended because you have exhausted all points. It may be suspended for an unpaid civil judgment (lawsuit); or it could be suspended because you didn’t enroll in State Traffic School after being ordered by the Court to enroll. We’ll here to help you figure out why and what we need to do to fix it.
